The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 AM near the Exit 43 ramp. According to witnesses, the moose emerged from the nearby woods and made its way onto the shoulder of the road. However, as vehicles approached, the animal became startled and bolted into traffic. Motorists swerved and slammed on their brakes, resulting in a chain-reaction crash involving several vehicles. Miraculously, no serious injuries were reported, but some commuters sustained minor bumps and bruises. Traffic on I-95 came to a standstill for close to an hour as emergency responders rushed to the scene. The moose, which had wandered several hundred feet down the highway, was eventually tranquilized by Maine Wildlife Service personnel. “It was a hairy situation,” said Trooper John Smith of the Maine State Police. “The moose is a large animal, and it could have caused significant damage or injuries if it had collided with a car at highway speeds.” Wildlife officials remained on scene until the moose was transported to a wildlife rehabilitation center. They reminded drivers to be aware of wildlife when traveling in Maine, especially during the early morning and evening hours. “Moose are common in this area,” said wildlife biologist Sarah Jones. “Drivers should always scan their surroundings and be prepared to stop or swerve if they encounter an animal on the road.” The traffic snarl caused by the moose disrupted the morning commute for thousands of motorists. However, it also served as a reminder of the importance of sharing our roads with wildlife and the need to drive cautiously in areas where animals are present.
