Starter Javier Assad pitched 3.1 innings before a stellar bullpen performance shut down the Brewers. The Brewers hold a five-game lead in the NL Central, while the Cubs sit in fourth place at 49-53.

The Cubs Weather Twitter account predicted a delay that would last until at least 7:30 p.m. CT due to the storms moving through.

Jameson Taillon is expected to take the mound for the Cubs, while Colin Rea will pitch for the Brewers. Taillon is 7-4 with a 3.10 ERA this season. Rea is 9-3 with a 3.77 ERA.
The Cubs won the game Monday night 3-1 thanks to a homerun by Nico Hoerner in the sixth inning, a wild pitch in the fourth and an RBI by Michael Busch in the third.
Stand-in starter Javier Assad threw 3.1 innings and set up the bullpen to go against type and shut down the opposition all the way. Between six pitchers, none gave up more than one hit while collecting seven strikeouts.
The Brewers gave themselves life in the eighth inning thanks to a homerun by Willy Adames, but a rally never came.
Milwaukee holds a five-game lead in the NL Central over the second-place Cardinals. The Cubs have settled into fourth place and have barely caught up to the Reds at 49-53 this season. Chicago appears headed for a trade deadline sale unless they make a surprise run next week. Even then, it may not be enough.
