According to an Associated Press poll, Vice President Kamala Harris already has enough delegates to be nominated for the White House, putting the Democrat on the verge of taking on Donald Trump.

The Associated Press heard from Democratic delegates who will vote to choose the party’s nominee in the November presidential election. As of 11 p.m. Monday (22), Kamala had reached 2,579 delegates — 1,976 were needed to secure the nomination.

The poll was based on individual interviews, as well as public statements from state representatives and committees. The poll also identified 54 undecided voters. Although it is not official, Kamala’s campaign celebrated the data.

Delegates represent the will of Democratic Party members from each U.S. state during the primaries. This process took place at the beginning of the year and was won by President Joe Biden.

The chairman of the Democratic National Committee explained that the name of the party that will participate in the presidential election will be announced no later than August 7. From the first day, virtual voting with delegates will be possible.

The Democratic Party convention will take place from August 19 to 22. During this event, the candidate who will participate in the elections will be officially announced.

Also on Monday, Kamala gave a speech at a campaign event in the candidate’s language, criticizing Trump and saying she “knows how to deal with criminals.”

“I’ve met criminals of all kinds: con artists who abuse women, con artists who rip off consumers, and fraudsters who break the rules for their own gain. So listen when I say: I know the Donald Trump type.”

Kamala Harris launches campaign for US presidency

Two of Kamala Harris’ biggest rivals for the White House within the Democratic Party have withdrawn from the race and endorsed the current vice president.

This Monday (22), Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan, and JB Pritzker, of Illinois, began expressing their support for Harris as the frontrunner of the Democratic slate against Donald Trump.

That brings the total to five Democratic frontrunners publicly endorsing Kamala Harris. The others are:

  • Gavin Newsom, Governor of California;
  • Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania;
  • Dean Phillips, Minnesota State Representative.

Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown was also expected to run against Harris within the party, but he has not yet spoken out publicly.

However, key names within the party, such as former President Barack Obama, Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries – the top Democrats in Congress – remain neutral on Biden’s succession.
