A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a crash in Newcastle.

An orange and black SUV and a black MG6 car collided on Binswood Avenue in Blakelaw, near the junction with Sunnyway, at around 9.40am on Sunday morning.

Emergency services arrived on the scene and the driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 30s, was found to have sustained serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the car was uninjured and remained at the scene to assist officers with their investigation. Officers from Northumbria Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.

They are appealing for witnesses to contact them and would particularly like to hear from motorists who may have dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision.
