Irish Films to Premiere at Toronto International Film FestivalIrish Films to Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced the addition of several Irish co-productions to its gala lineup. These films include: * Bring Them Down: Directed by Christopher Andrews and starring Barry Keoghan, the film follows an Irish shepherding family facing internal strife and rivalry. * The End: Directed by Joshua Oppenheimer and starring Tilda Swinton, the film is a musical about the last human family. * On Becoming a Guinea Fowl: Directed by Rungano Nyoni and produced by Element Pictures, the film premiered at Cannes and explores themes of displacement and belonging. * Sharp Corner: Directed by Jason Buxton, the film stars Cobie Smulders and Ben Foster and follows a family man’s obsession with saving car accident victims. Other notable Irish-related films on the TIFF lineup include: * Conclave: Starring Ralph Fiennes and Brían F. O’Byrne, the film is directed by Edward Berger and depicts a papal conclave. * Bird: Starring Barry Keoghan, the film is directed by Andrea Arnold and explores the life of a young couple in Glasgow. * The Order: Starring Jude Law and Alison Oliver, the film is directed by Justin Kurzel and tells the story of a secret organization trying to control the world. * We Live in Time: Starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, the film is directed by John Crowley and follows a young woman’s journey of self-discovery in 1950s London. The Toronto International Film Festival will take place from September 5th to 15th.

The 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival has added an array of films to its gala lineup, including Irish co-productions Bring Them Down, The End, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl and Sharp Corner.

Directed by Christopher Andrews and produced by Tailored Films, Bring Them Down sees “An Irish shepherding family thrust into battle on several fronts: internal strife, hostility within the family, and rivalry with another farmer.”. The film stars Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan and US actor Christopher Abbott – known for roles in Girls and Poor Things. The cast also includes Colm Meaney and Nora-Jane Noone.

The End, a feature film from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, stars Tilda Swinton, George Mackay, Michael Shannon, Moses Ingram and Bronagh Gallagher. Wild Atlantic Pictures are Irish co-producers on the project. The film has been described as “A Golden Age-style musical about the last human family.”

Rungano Nyoni’s On Becoming a Guinea Fowlproduced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, premiered at Cannes and will also play at TIFF.

Jason Buxton’s Sharp Corner – about “a dedicated family man who becomes obsessed with saving the lives of the car accident victims on the sharp corner in front of his house” – stars Cobie Smulders, Ben Foster and Alexandra Castillo and is a Parallel Films co-production.

Also on the TIFF lineup: Edward Berger’s Conclave starring Ralph Fiennes and Brían F. O’Byrne; Andrea Arnolds Bird starring Barry Keoghan which premiered at Cannes and will be released by MUBI; Justin Kurzel’s The Order starring Jude Law and Alison Oliver; and John Crowley’s We Live in Time starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.

Toronto International Film Festival runs from 5th to 15th September.
