The Rotary Club of Laredo celebrated the installation of its new president and board during its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 11, at the Embassy Suites.

In the absence of former president Mayra Pena, district assistant governor Rogelio Trevino passed the gavel to Paul Torres, who will lead the club in the 2024-2025 period.

Torres also received the banner with Rotary International’s new theme, “The Magic of Rotary,” which ties in with the district theme, “Be a Dreamcatcher.”

“Let’s be dream catchers in Rotary, so that in our dreams we can capture the magic of Rotary,” Trevino said. “That symbolism is related to all of the focus areas of Rotary.”

Torres also received a stole from the district governor, Zehra Surani, who is originally from Pakistan and has adopted some elements of her culture.

“The stole was assigned to us to wear on formal occasions,” Trevino said.

In addition to Torres, other board members were installed, including:

He said he plans to, among other things, establish communications tools with other Rotary clubs and organizations that can benefit from the services and projects Rotary offers.

“It’s a win-win situation because we can help, but they can also help with our mission,” he said. “The most important thing is to help each other, so together we can reach a larger population.”

One of his projects is the collaboration with veterans organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

“It’s about recognizing our talents and putting them at the service of the Laredo community.”

He said there are many people in Laredo who want to help, but sometimes don’t know where to go.

“Numbers are the foundation of strength and I hope to follow in the footsteps of all the presidents who came before me and continue their excellent work,” he said.
