Christian Ebere, a former Nigerian youth international who played alongside Victor Osimhen in the Golden Eaglets team that won the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2015, is set to join Argentine club Gimnasia on loan.

Ebere, who has spent most of his career in South America, will join Gimnasia from Uruguayan club Nacional on a loan deal until December 2025, with the Argentine club having the option to buy 70% of his rights for $1.5 million.

Ebere was a prominent figure in the U17 team that last lifted Nigeria’s trophy in Chile in 2015, playing in five games and scoring in the 4-2 semi-final win over Mexico.

He is expected to be the first African player in Gimnasia’s history and the fourth Nigerian to play in the Argentine league after Felix Orode, Afolabi Okiki and Feyisetan Asagidigbi.

A former Golden Eaglets striker, who shone in the youth team together with Victor Osimhen, will soon move from Uruguayan club Nacional to Argentina’s Gimnasia.

Nigeria last won the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2015. The tournament produced players including Osimhen, Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze.

Napoli forward Osimhen won the Golden Boot with a record 10 goals in seven games, while Nwakali won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.

The five-time youth champions, who were dominant worldwide, have since missed out on that podium and failed to qualify for the final tournament.

Ebere goes to Gimnasia

According to El Editor Platense, Ebere will join Gimnasia on loan until December 2025, with the Argentine club having an option to buy 70% of his rights for $1.5 million.

According to Soccernet, he will be the first African player in the club’s history. He is the fourth Nigerian to play in the Argentine league after Felix Orode, Afolabi Okiki and Feyisetan Asagidigbi.
