Meta has announced that a change is coming to Instagram’s Notes feature and that it will be expanding to Reels and regular posts.
Instagram is making several updates to its Notes feature. According to parent company Meta, new features are being introduced to improve user interaction and engagement. The most notable changes include the introduction of Prompts, which allows users to ask questions or add statements that their followers can respond to directly. Additionally, users can now tag friends in their Notes, who will then notify the tagged person, and others can “like” Notes by tapping the heart button.
Meta released a statement saying, “The new feature comes as people are prioritizing more private interactions with their mutual connections and close friends on Instagram. Early tests of the feature show that people enjoy the ability to quickly leave thoughts and comments on Notes for friends and mutual connections to see, especially for comedic content.”
The technical update is aimed at making Notes more interactive for users, allowing for text or emoji responses to prompts. Additionally, it could enable likes and mentions for greater engagement, as Instagram hopes to encourage more conversations and connections between users.

The Notes feature works by clicking on the share icon and then tapping on the ‘Note’ icon. Users then select who they want to show the Note: ‘close friends’ or ‘followers you follow back’.
Notes on feed posts and on Reels are visible for up to three days. However, if a user wants to delete a note, they can do so at any time.
In addition to the changes to Notes, Instagram is also making updates to Stories, including a Polaroid effect that lets followers shake the photo to reveal the image, and a cutout feature that can turn photos into custom stickers for Stories.
Additionally, Instagram Stories now include the feature to post a hidden story, where a person’s followers will need to DM them to reveal the story.
The Instagram updates come amid Meta’s progress in improving its other flagship apps. The parent company also owns Meta and WhatsApp.
