Seth Jason Becker was found guilty but mentally ill in the July 2022 crash that killed 58-year-old Janeth Gomez. Police say Becker ran a stop sign going 50 to 60 mph and struck Gomez’s Dodge Durango, which then collided with a third car. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. Becker was sentenced to four years for reckless manslaughter, three years for criminal recklessness, and two years for reckless driving. His sentences will be served concurrently. He was also ordered to pay restitution to Gomez’s family and to serve two years of supervised release following his prison term.

A man found guilty, but mentally ill, in a fatal South Bend crash has learned his fate.

Seth Jason Becker has been sentenced to a total of seven years in prison for reckless manslaughter, criminal recklessness and reckless driving.

It was in July 2022 when police were called to a crash at Ewing Avenue and Taylor Street. Investigators say Becker ran a stop sign going 50 to 60 mph and struck a Dodge Durango driven by 58-year-old Janeth Gomez.

Her vehicle then collided with a third car.

Gomez was killed in the crash.
