Ange Postecoglou Rejects England Job SpeculationAnge Postecoglou Rejects England Job Speculation Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has dismissed speculation linking him to the England national team job, emphasizing his commitment to Spurs. Following Tottenham’s 5-1 friendly win over Hearts, Postecoglou was asked about the rumors. “I had a nap this afternoon so I have no idea!” he exclaimed. “I am Tottenham manager and I am determined to bring success to this club, as I have done at every other club I have been to,” Postecoglou stated. “That is my full focus. We haven’t achieved anything yet, so until we achieve something, my work isn’t done.” When asked if the England job would ever interest him, Postecoglou replied, “Who knows where I’ll be in five years? I could be back in Japan, I could be on a beach somewhere, hopefully!” “It’s not something that crosses my mind, I’m Tottenham manager and I’m determined to bring success to this club. There’s nothing else on my radar other than that.” Eddie Howe remains the favorite to succeed Gareth Southgate as England manager, who stepped down after the European Championship final. Others on the FA’s shortlist include Lee Carsley and Graham Potter.

ANGE POSTECOGLOU insisted last night that he has no interest in the England job.

The Tottenham manager is reportedly one of the names being considered to replace Gareth Southgate.

Southgate is gone – now it’s time to go abroad

There is a natural preference to appoint an English successor.

And in an ideal world, the English manager should always be English. But this is not an ideal scenario.

The FA must therefore be ambitious in finding the best man for the job, regardless of his nationality.

Because England need a manager who commands instant respect from the players, who is tactically brazen enough to take on Spain and has the strength of character to deal with Jude Bellingham’s Real Madrid Galactico status, which threatens to cause problems for the England squad in the future. Yes, if the FA has cheated in the past, it hasn’t worked out well.

The problem with Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, however, was that neither had previously been involved in English football.

They lacked knowledge and understanding of football culture; Capello barely spoke the language.

Today, there is a wealth of talented overseas managers with significant Premier League experience, including Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino, Carlo Ancelotti and Thomas Tuchel.

Under-21 coach Lee Carsley and Graham Potter are also said to be eligible and are on the English Football Association’s list.

But Postecoglou joked: “I think there will probably be 100 on it by the end of the day, so I’m in the top 100, thank you, that’s pretty good!”

Postecoglou praised Southgate’s work before handing in his resignation earlier this week, adding: “I always felt there was a natural end to my career.

“Sometimes, as a manager, that is taken out of your hands, leaving you with no choice whether to continue or not.

“I’ve always moved on when I felt it was the right time, so he’s the best judge of that.

“He’s done an incredible job, ridiculously good results and performances at major tournaments.

“The expectations for England are really high now and he has created that.

“But he is the right person to say it was time for him, and as managers we have often taken our future out of our own hands.

“It’s nice when we sometimes make a decision ourselves.”

Hearts boss Steven Naismith was devastated by the heavy defeat but insists his team learned valuable lessons.

He added: “I thought it was a really good night. The game probably comes a little bit earlier than we ideally want in pre-season.

“The game gets a bit long-winded towards the end when we bring in a number of young lads who are just finding their way into the game. The young players they bring in were bought for £10 million.”
