Kogi State Receives 500,000 Doses of Anthrax VaccineKogi State Receives 500,000 Doses of Anthrax Vaccine Lokoja, Kogi State – The Kogi State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has received 500,000 doses of anthrax spore vaccine from the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES). The vaccines were delivered by the National Project Coordinator (NPC), Abubakar Sanusi, and received by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Timothy Ojomah. Sanusi emphasized the importance of vaccination in preventing the spread of anthrax and protecting livestock, which supports farmers’ livelihoods and boosts the local economy. Commissioner Ojomah expressed deep appreciation for the provision, acknowledging its impact on the state’s agricultural sector. He noted that the vaccines were timely and essential for preventing anthrax outbreaks, which pose a significant threat to livestock and public health. The National Project Coordinator’s visit also included an inspection of the completed cold storage facility and laboratory within the Ministry’s complex. These facilities are critical for the effective storage and analysis of vaccines and other veterinary supplies. Strengthening Veterinary Services This initiative aligns with the objectives of L-PRES, which focuses on strengthening national livestock institutions, improving value chain performance, and implementing crisis prevention and management strategies. The delivery of the anthrax vaccines and the inspection of the new facilities are important steps in strengthening the resilience and productivity of livestock in Kogi State.


The Kogi State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has significantly strengthened its animal health services with the supply of 500,000 doses of anthrax spore vaccine.

The vaccines were supplied by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) and delivered by the National Project Coordinator (NPC), Abubakar Sanusi.

Sanusi, who was received by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Timothy Ojomah, stressed that the delivery is part of L-PRES’s ongoing efforts to improve animal health services in Kogi State.

He stressed the crucial role of vaccination in preventing the spread of anthrax and protecting livestock, which in turn supports farmers’ livelihoods and boosts the local economy.

In his remarks, the Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, expressed deep appreciation for the provision, acknowledging the impact such support has on the state’s agricultural sector.

Our Correspondent in Kogi Statereports that he noted that the provision of these vaccines is timely and essential to prevent anthrax outbreaks, which pose a significant threat to livestock and public health.

The Commissioner further called for continued and extensive support from L-PRES to support and promote the State’s animal health initiatives. He outlined the need for continued collaboration and allocation of resources to ensure the robustness of Kogi State’s veterinary services.

“In addition to the delivery of the vaccine, the National Project Coordinator’s visit also included an inspection of the completed cold storage facility and laboratory within the Ministry’s complex.

“These state-of-the-art facilities are critical for the effective storage and analysis of vaccines and other veterinary supplies, ensuring they remain potent and safe to use.

“The cold storage facility is equipped with advanced refrigeration systems designed to keep vaccines at optimal temperatures, while the laboratory is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment to support comprehensive animal health assessments.

“This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the L-PRES project, which focuses on strengthening national livestock institutions, improving value chain performance and implementing crisis prevention and management strategies.

“The delivery of the anthrax vaccines and the inspection of the new facilities are important steps in strengthening the resilience and productivity of livestock in Kogi State,” he added.
