An update has been released after six people were found dead at a luxury hotel in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday (July 16).

Investigators said two Vietnamese Americans and four Vietnamese were identified. The bodies were “foaming from the mouth.”

Police and officials in Thailand suspect their deaths were the result of poisoning.

The three male and three female victims had booked multiple rooms at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel under seven names, with some staying on a different floor than the room where they were found.

Bangkok police chief Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang said at a news conference that they are still looking for the seventh person on the list and are trying to check whether he or she has entered Thailand.

And now, an update has shared images of a table full of uneaten meals.

Ordered from room service on Monday afternoon, food was not eaten but drinks were drunk. Chef added that there were ‘unknown substances’ in the bottom of all six cups.

Most of the dishes were still covered with cling film, because they consisted of rice, eggs and vegetables. There were also extra plates with soup and vegetables.

Most of the cutlery has not been removed from the napkins either.

Lt Gen Thiti did not confirm the cause of death but said the victims were believed to have died 24 hours before police arrived at the scene on Tuesday evening.

The people staying in the room where the bodies were found are believed to have checked out earlier in the day yesterday, with their luggage already packed, according to police.

They were then found by a chambermaid who went to the room after they forgot to check out, only to find the room locked from the inside.

Because there were no signs of a struggle and the case is not being treated as a robbery, the chief said the case will likely be treated as a homicide rather than a suicide.

Pending autopsy results, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said: “Our hypothesis is that they ingested something that caused their death.”

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said authorities are aware of reports of the deaths of two American citizens in Bangkok.

“We express our sincere condolences to the families for their loss. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance to those families,” he said.

Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel told LADbible that police are continuing to investigate, but that the hotel is “continuing to operate as normal.”

It added: “The safety and security of our guests and colleagues is always a top priority. We continue to work with local authorities to provide any assistance required.”
