Prior to coming to Red Deer, Dr. Mitic worked as a surgeon in Timmins, Ontario for two years and held temporary positions at various locations in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.

“Red Deer is the third largest city in the best province in Canada,” said Jason Stephan, MLA for Red Deer-South. “It’s great to see medical professionals coming to Red Deer to help families and individuals in our great community.”

AHS officials say Dr. Mitic returned to Alberta to be closer to family. She attributes her decision to work here to the year she spent in an integrated community placement in Sylvan Lake, where she spent a significant amount of time at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

“The ICC program was an invaluable educational opportunity for me, and I have many fond memories of working as a medical student at Red Deer Hospital,” says Dr. Mitic.

When Mitic is not working, he enjoys yoga, cooking, cycling, hiking and skiing.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says it is continuing its efforts to recruit physicians in the central zone to meet the needs of the community. AHS says it has medical resource planners dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They are working with various community partners and organizations, such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
