A man was taken to a Rhode Island hospital after the van he was driving collided with a commercial vehicle in Avon Monday afternoon, police said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred in the area of ​​Harrison Boulevard and Pond Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday, Avon Fire Chief David Charest and Police Chief Jeffrey Bukunt said in a joint statement. A minivan sustained heavy damage to both its front and sides in the crash, officials said.

Three men in the minivan were all injured in the crash, and the driver of the bus was flown to a hospital in Rhode Island, the statement said. The other passengers in the minivan were taken by ambulance to area hospitals.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured, officials said. The driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Avon police are investigating the accident.
