RWJUH was recognized as a “High Performing” in the 2024-2025 U.S. News Best Hospitals for the Adult Specialty of Cancer, and for 11 common adult conditions and procedures, including aortic valve surgery, COPD, colon cancer surgery, gynecologic cancer surgery, bypass surgery, heart failure, kidney failure, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, lung cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

The annual reviews of specialties, procedures and conditions are designed to help patients and their caregivers make informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

RWJUH was also recognized as High Performing by U.S. News & World Report in Maternity Care for 2024 and is home to The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, which is currently recognized as the 34th pediatric orthopedics and 47th pediatric urology program in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital for 2023-24 publication.

“Out of 113 hospitals in New Jersey, we are honored to be one of only eight recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Regional Hospital for 2024-25, and to once again be ranked No. 22 in the NY Metropolitan Area,” said Bill Arnold, Chief Executive Officer of RWJUH. “As the anchor of our academic medical system and through our robust partnerships with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers Cancer Institute, New Jersey’s only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, RWJUH treats the most complex medical conditions and provides the most acute services in the state and region, including serving as one of only three state-designated Level 1 Trauma Centers. I commend the RWJUH team for this accomplishment and thank them for their hard work and dedication.”

U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions; only 11% of the hospitals evaluated earned a Best Hospitals ranking. Hospitals earning a “Best” designation excelled in factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

“For 35 years, U.S. News has been a leading resource for patients making health care decisions,” said Ben Harder, chief health analyst and managing editor at U.S. News. “A ‘Best Hospital’ designation empowers patients to seek medical care from the best of the best to treat their disease or condition.”

To calculate the Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty ranking methodology and the Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from millions of records provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This year, among other methodological refinements, U.S. News included new data on care provided to patients with Medicare Advantage plans and on care provided to outpatients, nearly doubling the number of patients included in the annual data analysis. The Procedures & Conditions ratings are based entirely on objective quality measures.
