Much has been written since a gunman opened fire and hit Trump in the ear during Saturday’s rally in Pennsylvania.

While the assassination attempt brought out the best in some people, it also showed how tasteless others can be.

Here’s what you may have missed:

IN MELANIA’S WORDS

Former first lady Melania Trump released a lengthy letter the morning after the shooting at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania urging Americans to put “love, compassion, kindness and empathy” above politics.

“As I watched that vicious bullet strike my husband Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s, were about to experience devastating changes,” she wrote.

“A monster my husband recognized as an inhuman political machine tried to emphasize Donald’s passion — his laughter, ingenuity, love of music and inspiration,” she added.

She also spoke about ‘political games’ and ‘concepts’ and how they are insignificant compared to humanity and love, and how people must rise above hate.

“We all want a world where respect comes first, family comes first, and love transcends all else.”

SECRET SERVICE INTERROGATED

There are many questions and concerns about how a sniper was able to get so close to Trump’s position on stage at his campaign rally. If the former president had not narrowed the target by turning his head to the right, the outcome would have been different.

President Joe Biden has since ordered the Secret Service to review “all security measures” for the Republican National Convention, and to launch an “independent national security investigation” into Trump’s rally to “assess exactly what happened.”

ROOKIES ON THE ROOF?

That said, many bystanders saw would-be hitman Thomas Matthew Crooks crawl onto the roof and even point him out to police officers for nearly a minute, long before authorities paid attention.

Trump, video footage showed, can be heard in the background making his remarks as a camera zooms in on Crooks as he lies facedown on the roof. Several people can be heard trying to warn officers.

“Officer!” a man shouted, before a woman yelled, “He’s on the roof!”

Another person shouted, “He’s up now!” as Crooks, who is seen throughout the clip, moves forward on his stomach.

Police did not appear to respond, but it is not known whether the officers, who are not seen in the video, took immediate action.

Eventually, an officer climbed a ladder into a nearby building to investigate, law enforcement officials, who asked not to be named, told the Associated Press.

Crooks pointed his gun at the officer, who was coming down the ladder. Then he pointed his gun at Trump, grazing him in the ear, killing a former firefighter and wounding two others.

CANCELLED

An employee of a Democratic congresswoman from Mississippi was fired after she posted on social media shortly after the attempted assassination that she hoped the gunman who targeted Donald Trump “wouldn’t miss next time.”

Jacqueline Marsaw’s Facebook post read: “I don’t condone violence but make sure you get some shooting lessons so you don’t miss next time. Oops, that wasn’t me speaking.”

Marsaw served as field director for Rep. Bennie Thompson before she was fired, the Natchez Democrat reported.

She added that the shooting “couldn’t have happened to a nicer person,” though she also noted that the entire incident seemed “staged.”

Despite the order to remove her posts, screenshots of her posts were widely shared online. She continued to receive criticism, with many calling for her resignation.

On Sunday afternoon, Thompson complied with the request.

Marsaw’s firing follows the firing of a Pennsylvania fire chief who posted, “Too bad it didn’t hit him right,” shortly after Trump was shot and former Fire Chief Corey Comperatore was killed while protecting his wife and daughter, and two others were injured.

NETWORK NONSENSE

CNN and CBS hosts faced criticism for their responses after Trump was attacked.

As he was being escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents, we all saw Trump raise his fist in the air and shout “Fight!” to cheering supporters.

However, CNN correspondent Jamie Gangel felt it sent the wrong message, calling it “odd” because of “all the heated rhetoric.”

Meanwhile, MSNBC has removed its left-leaning talk show Good morning Joe off the air on Monday because the news network feared an anti-Trump guest would make an inappropriate comment, CNN reported.

“Given the seriousness and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have continued to provide breaking news coverage since Saturday evening,” an NBCUniversal spokesperson said.

Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, longtime Joe Biden supporters, are expected to return to their seats on Tuesday.
