The “Adopt a Patch” program empowers local communities to enhance their public spaces by embracing nature. This initiative provides grants and native plants to support the transformation of alleys, verges, and other public areas into thriving habitats. By allowing communities to “adopt” these spaces without the need for formal groups, the program fosters a sense of ownership and encourages residents to actively participate in the care and preservation of their environment. This multifaceted approach promotes biodiversity, enhances aesthetics, and fosters a stronger sense of community. The “Adopt a Patch” program empowers local communities to enhance their public spaces by embracing nature. “To support local neighbourhoods in defending their local areas, we will establish the ‘Adopt a Patch’ programme, allowing communities to adopt their local alleys, verges or similar public spaces and renovate them as natural habitats, with access to small-scale grants and free native plants, without the need to establish an ongoing Urban Park Group,” the party said.
