He announced the clearance of outstanding fees and the implementation of the government’s fee refund policy to assist colleges. Reddy addressed concerns about the elimination of branches like civil engineering, emphasizing that neglecting essential disciplines could harm the nation’s infrastructure development. He encouraged colleges to focus on training professionals with broad societal impact, rather than solely catering to job market demands. The CM dismissed protests demanding the postponement of competitive exams as politically motivated and stated that the government plans to establish a “job calendar” to expedite vacancy filling.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday urged the managements of private engineering colleges to improve the quality of education. education in their institutions to improve job and livelihood opportunities for students. Speaking at an interactive programme on quality technical education organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) here, he said engineering colleges should not become factories of unemployed youth.

The government would help the colleges to improve the quality of education they provide, he said. The management of engineering colleges should equip the students to contribute significantly to the society, Reddy said. The government would take steps to refund the fees to the colleges every year, as per the government’s fee refund policy, he said, adding that steps would also be taken to clear the outstanding fees.

He noted that some engineering colleges seem to be doing away with branches like civil engineering and focusing on courses that offer job opportunities. He said the country would be in trouble if courses like civil engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering were not offered. The engineering colleges should train professionals who will contribute greatly to the society in various fields and they should not focus only on serving the job market, he said.

Referring to the protests demanding postponement of competitive exams announced by the state government, he alleged that some political forces and coaching centres were behind it. He said the government would bring out a ‘job calendar’ to fill vacancies quickly.
