PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tyler Phillips pitched into the seventh inning in his first career start, Bryce Harper and Trea Turner hit two of Philadelphia’s four home runs and the Phillies beat the Oakland Athletics 11-5 on Saturday.

Nick Castellanos had a home run and four RBIs and Johan Rojas also homered for the Phillies, who lead the NL East and have won four of five games.

“We got it going early and kept it going,” Harper said.

Brent Rooker hit a home run, a double and a single for Oakland.

“He’s completely stuck,” A’s manager Mark Kotsay said.

Phillips (1-0) surrendered four runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking none. The 26-year-old right-handed pitcher was lifted after Rooker’s home run and Shea Langelier’s double to lead off the seventh inning. Phillips grew up a Phillies fan in nearby Lumberton, New Jersey, about 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) from Citizens Bank Park, and went to high school at nearby Bishop Eustace Prep.

“I knew it was going to be crazy, because I’m a Phillies fan,” Phillips said. “It was probably everything and more.”

He made his debut last Sunday in Atlanta, pitching four innings as a reliever, striking out 12 batters and allowing no walks in two appearances.

Phillips left the stadium to a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd of 44,231. It was the 15th consecutive sold-out home game and the 29th overall this season.

“I had to fight back the tears,” he said.

Turner’s two-run homer to left-center and Rojas’ solo shot off Mitch Spence (5-6) set up Philadelphia’s three-run fourth inning that gave the Phillies a 6-2 lead. Turner, one of eight Philadelphia All-Stars with a franchise record, has seven home runs in 11 games this month.

Spence gave up five hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Harper hit his 21st of the season in the seventh off reliever Austin Adams. The two-time NL MVP has now hit a homer against every team in the majors.

“A pretty cool achievement,” he said.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Athletics: Right-hander Michel Otañez left the game immediately after taking a line drive from Turner to his throwing arm in the eighth inning. Kotsay said Otañez has a bruise on his forearm that is more muscular in nature.

Phillies: Left-hander Ranger Suárez will not play in the All-Star game because of back spasms and lower back pain, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said. The move is considered a precautionary measure, and Suárez is expected to return to the rotation during a three-game series at Minnesota beginning July 22.

NEXT ONE

The clubs wrap up their three-game series on Sunday before adjourning for the All-Star break. RHP Joey Estes (3-4, 5.53) goes for Oakland. Philadelphia has not yet named its starter.
