Arcadia police responded to a home in the 1600 block of Oakwood Avenue on July 6 after a report of a suspicious device in the front yard of a home. There, officers learned from the homeowner that they had found a camera and equipment in the bushes of their home.

“The camera was positioned to capture footage of other homes in the area,” police said in a statement.

Upon closer inspection, officers noticed that the camera had no internal storage. However, it had a mobile hotspot connected to it, leading officers to conclude that the camera was transmitting footage to a cloud-based application.

“Camouflaged cameras are a tactic used in residential burglaries,” according to the Arcadia Police Department. “Suspects place hidden cameras in locations where they can gather information about neighborhoods and the daily routines of specific homeowners.”
