THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While formally hosting the mothership San Fernando at Vizhinjam Port, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the second, third and fourth phases of the port will be completed by 2028. He also said Kerala will become the container trading hub of the country.

“As Vizhinjam becomes a full-fledged port, there will be investments worth Rs 10,000 crores. 5,000 jobs will be created. A port-based job training centre will be started at a cost of Rs 50 crores. Vizhinjam will also benefit the neighbouring countries. The country’s international importance will further increase,” he said.

“Of the Rs 8,867 crore expenditure on the port, Rs 5,595 crore is borne by the state. The central share is only Rs 818 crore. So Vizhinjam is the state port.
