LE GRAND — East Marshall softball collected 12 hits, including home runs by Morgan Neuroth and Ashtyn Wheater, and the Mustangs defeated Panorama 12-1 in five innings in a Class 2A Region 4 quarterfinal Thursday night at East Marshall High School.

The Mustangs play again in Le Grand on Friday against Carroll Kuemper, with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Kuemper defeated Manson-Northwest Webster 4-2 on Wednesday.

The game resumed after Wednesday’s torrential rains delayed it until the start of the third inning, with East Marshall leading 3-1.

Wheater drove in a run on a ball that came into play, leading to an error by Panorama that made it 4-1 after three innings. The Mustangs, ranked sixth in Class 2A, scored eight runs on six hits in the fourth inning and sent 13 batters to bat.

That was a big boost for Neuroth, Thursday’s winning pitcher who allowed just one hit — a leadoff home run to University of Iowa softball recruit Jaidyn Sellers on Wednesday — and struck out 12 batters with two hits and one hit.

Bailey Grant and Neuroth finished with two RBIs each; Vaeda Bryan and Ava Bringmann each scored one RBI.
