In a significant step towards improving the employability of underprivileged communities, the NIIT Foundation, in partnership with Angel One, has launched a transformative program. Launched in 2022, the partnership focuses on providing industry-specific training free of charge, targeting youth aged 18 to 28. With a focus on the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) sectors, the program equips participants with critical skills such as functional English, basic IT knowledge, and specialized sectoral skills.

Using a multi-faceted approach, the initiative combines self-study with instructor-led training through a Learning Management System (LMS). This methodology ensures that beneficiaries, often from disadvantaged communities, develop the necessary skills to significantly improve their employability prospects.

The impact of the programme is evident, with a remarkable 58% enrolment rate for women. Furthermore, 71% of participants (totalling 3,474 beneficiaries) have successfully secured placements with reputable organisations such as Quess Corp, C-Tech, Findrive Services, HDB Financial and DBS Mintek Pvt Ltd. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the programme in preparing youth for the labour market.

The initiative spans across states and territories including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi NCR and Karnataka. With the enrollment phase beginning in April 2024, the program aims to empower 3,750 youth from disadvantaged backgrounds by improving their skills and employability prospects.

To emphasize the importance of the program, Sapan Moudgil, CEO of NIIT Foundationstated: “The NIIT Foundation’s carefully designed curriculum is geared towards engaging students through diverse courses that not only help in developing soft skills such as communication and analytical skills but also guide individuals through comprehensive training programmes to enhance their adaptability and confidence, thereby preparing them for lucrative job opportunities and emerging victorious. The core of this project revolves around connectivity and accessibility, to ensure that these youth receive quality skill development without compromising on effectiveness. By carefully selecting programme locations, we aim to place a strong emphasis on the needs of the community and the presence of potential employers in the vicinity. This strategic approach is aimed at bridging the gap between industry demands and the skills of the youth.”

Shefali Hasija, Head of CSR at Angel One, added: “It is a recognised fact that a significant proportion of today’s youth lack the skills and confidence required by the modern labour market. This problem is even more evident in underserved communities, where access to opportunities and resources remains a challenge. Therefore, the success of this partnership with the NIIT Foundation to empower such young individuals is extremely encouraging and we look forward to continuing our partnership to drive greater impact.”
