The draw for the qualifiers took place on Thursday, with Nigeria being placed in Pot 1 due to its FIFA ranking. They were subsequently drawn into Group D alongside Rwanda, Benin, and Libya. Rohr, who previously coached the Super Eagles from 2016 to 2021, acknowledged the challenge posed by Nigeria but expressed belief in his team’s capabilities. “It’s a tough draw because there’s Nigeria again. And we’ve got Rwanda, an opponent we know well and are wary of. And then there’s Libya, who have a good team, it’s going to be a tough journey there,” Rohr said. He continued, “Another reunion with Nigeria. That will be three more games with them. It’s a reunion against a very good team. But we’ve gained confidence and we know we can beat them.” The qualifiers will see the top two teams from each group advance to the 2025 AFCON tournament. Benin will face a stern test in Group D, but Rohr’s confidence suggests they will be a force to be reckoned with.
