This text provides data on new car registrations in Israel for the month of June 2023 and the first six months of the year. This text provides data on new car registrations in Israel for the month of June 2023 and the first six months of the year. Key Points: * New car registrations in June decreased by 20% compared to June 2022, with 24,000 cars registered. * In the first six months, around 160,000 new cars were delivered, marking an 11% decline year-over-year. * The data includes both car importer registrations and related small imports, reflecting the overall car market. * Toyota emerged as the market leader in June with 3,120 units, boosted by the import of Corolla and CH-R models from Turkey. * Electric car deliveries continue to rise, maintaining a 25% market share since the beginning of the year. * Chinese brands accounted for a significant portion of electric car deliveries, with Zikr, Xpeng, Ceres, and Smart among the notable players. * In the luxury market, Mercedes remained the leader, followed by BMW, Audi, Lexus, and Volvo.

In June, 24,000 new cars were registered with the Licensing Department, a decrease of around 20% compared to June 2023. This is evident from preliminary data from the Licensing Department, which include not only the number of car importers, but also related and small imports, and express the entire car market.

In total, about 160,000 new cars were delivered in six months and during the war, a decrease of about 11% compared to the corresponding period last year. But these figures do not tell the whole story: they include thousands of cars that the car importers were unable to sell within 12 months of arriving in Israel and had to register in their names as second-hand cars, which are now being sold in zero-kilometer sales, with sufficient discounts.

After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan imposed a trade embargo on Israel, Toyota was the last importer to receive a shipment of the country’s Corolla sedan and CH-R models produced there. In the meantime, that’s helped Toyota become the market leader in Israel this year, with 3,120 units shipped in June — including, as noted, parallel imports — and 19,420 since the beginning of the year.

Excluding the Turkish-made i10, i20 and Bayon, Hyundai delivered around 2,200 units this month and 17,850 units year-to-date. Kia narrows the gap in third place, with around 2,300 units this month and 16,300 units year-to-date. Skoda comes in fourth, having overtaken BYD in total deliveries this month, with 1,850 and 10,800 total, compared to BYD’s 1,130 and 10,200 electric vehicles respectively.

China’s electric MG also stood out this month, with 1,900 deliveries, but a proportion of these were “gyols”, registrations of new and old vehicles in the name of the importer. MG also ranks ninth in the annual deliveries table, with 5,650 cars.

And so, despite a decline in vehicle deliveries, the increase in electric deliveries continues, which have maintained a market share of 25% since the beginning of the year. Among the new electric Chinese brands, Zikr delivered 1,455 units, Xpeng 1,150, Ceres around 1,000 and Smart (of which Mercedes still holds a 50% stake) around 700. In the luxury market, Mercedes continues to lead (3,020 since the beginning of the year), ahead of BMW (2,200), Audi (1,600), Lexus (1,300) and Volvo (990). In the super-luxury market, Masera Porsche delivered 131 cars, Maserati 18, Bentley 7, Ferrari 6 and Lamborghini 5 cars.
