This marks the ninth such incident since intense fighting erupted in the region on May 10. Governor Minni Minawi confirmed via social media that the RSF had targeted a private hospital in El Fasher’s Grand Market and the Jabal Marra hospital less than 40 minutes later. The attacks reportedly involved precision cannons allegedly supplied by the Emirates. According to a doctor at the Jabal Marra hospital, the shelling damaged the building but spared the medical equipment. The RSF’s actions have been condemned as an attempt to cripple the healthcare system in the area. The Sudan Liberation Movement-Transitional Council stated that it, along with the Sudan Liberation Forces Gathering faction led by El Taher Hajar, had assisted in evacuating approximately 500 civilians, primarily women, children, and elderly, from El Fasher to nearby towns. These attacks underscore the ongoing humanitarian crisis in North Darfur, where indiscriminate shelling has destroyed healthcare centers, claimed lives, and forced thousands of people to flee.

July 2, 2024 (EL FASHER) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued to attack health facilities in North Darfur state, shelling two hospitals in El Fasher on Tuesday.

This is the ninth such attack since fighting broke out in El Fasher between the army, the RSF and their allies on May 10. The fighting involved the use of heavy weapons, including airstrikes and artillery.

Darfur Governor Minni Minawi confirmed in a tweet on Platform X that the RSF destroyed a private hospital in El Fasher’s Grand Market. He explained that this meant they had targeted all hospitals in the area with high-precision cannons reportedly brought from the Emirates.

In a second tweet, Minawi said the RSF bombed the Jabal Marra hospital in El Fasher, less than 40 minutes after the attack on the private hospital.

A doctor told Sudan Tribune that the shelling of the medical complex in Jabal Marra severely damaged the building, but the medical equipment remained unharmed.

The RSF’s attacks on medical facilities in El Fasher are seen as an attempt to paralyze the health sector. The indiscriminate shelling has already destroyed the dialysis center, El Fasher South Hospital, the Saudi Hospital and several private medical centers.

The military spokesman for the Sudan Liberation Movement-Transitional Council, Ahmed Jaddo, told Sudan Tribune that the movement, in cooperation with the Sudan Liberation Forces Gathering faction led by El Taher Hajar, ensured the safe arrival of about 500 people from El Fasher to the Tawilla, Korma and Kebkabiya areas.

He noted that most of the refugees were women, children and the elderly.
