The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when Horry County police officers attempted to pull over a stolen Kia Sportage. The driver, identified as an 18-year-old male, refused to stop and led officers on a chase. During the chase, the driver reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour and ran several red lights. Officers deployed stop sticks, but the driver continued to flee. The chase ended when the stolen car crashed into a ditch on Highway 501 near Conway. Both the driver and his 17-year-old female passenger were taken into custody. The driver was charged with several offenses, including possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing to elude, and reckless driving. The passenger was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Both teenagers were transported to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. The incident remains under investigation.
