The charges stem from an alleged obstruction of an official inspection. Radheshyam Hanmantrao Padalwar, Deputy Secretary of the Mumbai Secretariat, filed a complaint with the Wakad police station. According to the complaint, CEO Pamesh Gupta, Managing Director Sandip Kumar Singh, medical social worker Sanchit Suryavanshi, a female medical social worker, and another unidentified female have been charged. The inspection team visited the hospital to verify compliance with the Maharashtra Public Trust Act and a High Court ruling that mandates transparent implementation of schemes providing free and discounted medical treatment to underprivileged individuals. The team, led by Padalwar, assessed if the hospital was adhering to these requirements. During the inspection, CEO Gupta, Managing Director Singh, and the medical social worker allegedly hindered the team’s progress. Despite having an obligation to assist and provide necessary documents, the suspects left the hospital without fulfilling these responsibilities. Additionally, an unidentified female staff member reportedly threatened the inspection team, questioning their authority to conduct checks at night and inquiring why female staff had to work until 10 p.m. Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Pawar confirmed the case, stating, “A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Notices under CRPC 41 have been issued to the accused.” In response to the allegations, Pamesh Gupta, CEO of Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, said, “The hospital was visited by the deputy secretary of the Mumbai Secretariat, who is also the chairman of the Special Charity Fund Scheme Inspection Committee. The hospital administration has submitted all relevant documents related to the charity work being carried out. There was no obstacle to any government work. The hospital board has always cooperated transparently with the committee.” The incident highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and transparency in the healthcare sector. The charges against the hospital staff underscore the importance of cooperation with government agencies tasked with regulating healthcare institutions.

Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Pawar confirmed the case and said, “A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Notices under CRPC 41 have been issued to the accused and investigations are underway.”
