The City of Charlotte’s noise ordinance restricts music levels to 60 decibels between 9:00 PM and 2:00 AM on weekdays and 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM on weekends. However, residents claim that the noise from Eden of Plaza exceeds these limits. Wolfe has expressed concerns about the impact of the noise on his sleep and well-being. Other neighbors, including Emily Scott, have taken measures such as using earplugs and soundproof curtains to mitigate the noise. Scott even contacted the police and sent a message to the club on Instagram, receiving a $100 gift card after requesting them to address the issue. Eden of Plaza has not yet responded to inquiries from WCCB. Scott hopes that the club will be more respectful of noise levels after receiving multiple complaints from neighbors. The ongoing noise disturbances have caused frustration and concern among residents who are seeking a resolution to the situation.
PLAZA MIDWOOD – Neighbors in Plaza Midwood are frustrated by a new club that they say plays loud music late into the night.
Ron Wolfe has lived in Plaza Midwood for more than 30 years. He has seen many businesses move into the area, including the new Eden of Plaza bar on Pecan Avenue that opened in the fall. He tells WCCB’s Emma Mondo that he first noticed the noise about two months ago.
“I’m really surprised because I didn’t think the new owner would be active in music,” Wolfe said, “and that’s not the case.”
The City of Charlotte’s noise ordinance states that music must be kept at 60 decibels on Sunday through Thursday between 9:00 PM and 2:00 AM, and on Friday and Saturday between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM.
“It affects my sleep,” Wolfe said. “I’ve learned to fall asleep, but I don’t think it’s that restful.”
Now that Eden’s rooftop bar has opened here on Pecan Avenue, neighbors from around the area are telling Mondo about the extensive measures they’re taking to try to stay asleep.
Emily Scott lives less than a mile from the new club with her husband and their two-month-old daughter.
“Our house was built in 1908 like it wasn’t made for a nightclub scene,” she said. “We finally got earplugs last weekend when they opened the roof. It was just a little too much with the bass, which certainly makes our midnight feedings interesting when we still have music in the background.
She tells Mondo that she called the police about the noise last weekend after the earplugs and soundproof curtains didn’t help. She also sent a message to Eden of Plaza on Instagram last Thursday asking her to reject it. She was surprised when they replied saying that they were still working on solving the problems and that they will be more aware. They also offered her a $100 gift card.
WCCB contacted Eden but did not hear back.
“I hope they’re as respectful of it now that they’ve probably received multiple complaints from a lot of neighbors,” Scott said.
