NAGRAT Warns SSNIT Against Hotel SaleNAGRAT Warns SSNIT Against Hotel Sale The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has issued a strong warning to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to halt the sale of four of its hotels. According to NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu, SSNIT management will face a swift and resolute response from the association if they proceed with the sale. “If they become intransigent, some of us in Organized Labor will move a motion that we should sleep – occupy SSNIT buildings until such time as they see reason to do the right thing,” Carbonu said. The concerns stem from a May revelation by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who questioned the sale of 60% of SSNIT’s stake in the hotels to a foreign minister. Despite a petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ghana Federation of Labor claims SSNIT is continuing negotiations with Rock City Hotel, owned by Foreign Minister and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong. Carbonu emphasized that SSNIT is a public trust belonging to Ghanaian workers and not a “cabal of politicians.” He stressed that Ghanaians should have pushed for reforms in SSNIT’s governance structure. “If they become intransigent, we in Organized Labor will move a motion that we should occupy SSNIT buildings until they see reason,” Carbonu added.

The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, has issued a stern warning to the management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to desist from the sale of its hotels.

According to Mr Carbonu, SSNIT management will be surprised by the association’s response if they do not reconsider their decision to sell four of its hotels.

Speaking Great story On Tuesday, Mr Carbonu said: “If the management of SSNIT becomes intransigent on this issue, some of us will table a motion on the platform of Organized Labor, and I can assure you that they will be surprised by the outcome.”

His comments follow concerns raised by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who revealed details of the deal in May and questioned why SSNIT would sell 60% of its stake in the hotels to a foreign minister.

Despite petitioning the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to halt the sale, the Ghana Federation of Labor claims that SSNIT is continuing with talks to sell its stake in four hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

Following this, Mr Carbonu emphasized that SSNIT belongs to the workers of Ghana and it is their contributions that have built SSNIT.

He clarified that SSNIT does not belong to a cabal of politicians, arguing that Ghanaians should have fought for a change in the governance structure of SSNIT.

“If they become intransigent, some of us in Organized Labor will move a motion that we should sleep – occupy SSNIT buildings until such time as they see reason to do the right thing,” the NAGRAT president added.
