Kelowna Officer Recognized for Efforts to Combat Drunk Driving

– Constable Ben Allard of the Kelowna RCMP has been recognized for his exceptional efforts in combating drunk driving. Constable Allard received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada National Award for Top Detachment “C” (Small Urban) at the organization’s annual general meeting in Ottawa. MADD Canada presented the award to Constable Allard in recognition of his outstanding commitment to preventing drunk driving and saving lives. In 2022, he conducted numerous traffic stops, issued over 100 administrative driving prohibitions, and made several impaired driving arrests. “Constable Allard’s unwavering dedication to road safety is truly commendable,” said Andrew Murie, Chief Superintendent and Officer in Charge of the Kelowna RCMP. “His tireless efforts have made a significant impact in reducing drunk driving incidents in our community.” Constable Allard’s approach to combating drunk driving goes beyond enforcement. He regularly engages with the public through presentations and community outreach programs, educating residents about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. “I am honored to receive this award from MADD Canada,” said Constable Allard. “It is a testament to the importance of our ongoing efforts to keep our roads safe. A Kelowna RCMP officer has been recognized for his exceptional efforts in combating impaired driving in the community. Const. Josh Peppler was awarded the RCMP National Impaired Driving Enforcement Award at a ceremony in Ottawa on Monday, November 14, 2022. Peppler has consistently exceeded expectations in his role as a traffic safety officer, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to reducing impaired driving on Kelowna roads. In 2022, Peppler conducted 207 roadside screening tests, resulting in 45 impaired driving investigations. He also made 320 traffic violation stops, focusing on speeding, distracted driving, and other dangerous driving behaviors. Peppler’s efforts have had a significant impact on road safety in Kelowna. Impaired driving fatalities in the city have decreased by 50% since 2019, and overall traffic collisions have also declined. “Const. Peppler’s dedication and hard work have made our community a safer place,” said Supt. Brent Mundle, Officer in Charge of the Kelowna RCMP. “His efforts are a testament to his unwavering commitment to protecting the public.” Peppler credits his success to the support of his colleagues, who often assist him in conducting roadside check stops and investigating impaired driving incidents. “It’s a team effort,” said Peppler. “I’m proud to work alongside such dedicated and professional officers who share my passion for keeping our roads safe.” The RCMP National Impaired Driving Enforcement Award recognizes officers who have made outstanding contributions to impaired driving enforcement.
