Tragedy struck in North Lauderdale, Florida, when a hit-and-run driver claimed the life of 17-year-old Mark Garratt. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Garratt was walking home from a nearby convenience store at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping to render aid. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but Garratt was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Investigators believe Garratt was walking in the southbound lane of North Lauderdale Boulevard near Southwest 69th Avenue when he was hit. The vehicle involved is believed to be a dark-colored sedan. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident and searching for the hit-and-run driver. They are asking anyone with information to come forward. Mark Garratt was a student at Coral Springs High School.
