– On an evening set to become a memorable one, the community of New Hope will gather to celebrate, honor, and remember John Larsen, the man who established John and Peter’s as an iconic music club and made significant contributions to the community. Larsen, who passed away in October, will be celebrated at a memorial event on Tuesday, June 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Hope Arts Center, followed by a reception at John and Peter’s on South Main Street. “It’s going to be pretty special,” said Mayor Larry Keller. “There will be singing and speeches, and I’m sure there will be a good turnout from both the old and young New Hope crowd.” To accommodate the expected attendance, a tent will be set up on Stockton Avenue. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for New Hope Arts, an organization that Larsen and his wife Robin supported. Larsen’s story is filled with remarkable chapters, including his escape from Europe as a young man to evade the Nazi invasion. At John and Peter’s, Larsen fostered the talents of up-and-comers like Mary Chapin Carpenter, Norah Jones, and Ween, alongside legendary artists such as Odessa, George Thorogood, and Richie Sambora. “John loved music, musicians, food, and community,” his obituary stated. Larsen’s contributions to New Hope extended beyond John and Peter’s. He served on the Borough Council, the Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce, and the Zoning Board. He also played an active role in fundraising for community causes. “He was a driving force in this city in so many ways,” said Mayor Keller. “We’re honored to remember his legacy and celebrate his tremendous impact on the New Hope community.”
