JD Vance’s Troubles May Lead to Trump Dumping HimJD Vance’s Troubles May Lead to Trump Dumping Him JD Vance’s recent comments have caused controversy, prompting speculation that Donald Trump might replace him as his running mate. According to Peter Baker, a New York Times reporter, Trump’s past behavior suggests that he may be open to switching candidates. Baker noted that in previous campaigns, changing the running mate at this stage would be highly unusual. However, he emphasized Trump’s unpredictable nature and his willingness to fire appointees he deems disloyal or ineffective. Vance’s unpopularity with voters and his negative impact on Trump’s poll numbers have raised concerns within the Republican camp. Despite Vance’s loyalty, his perceived political liability could be too great for Trump to ignore. Baker speculated that finding a suitable replacement who could significantly alter the campaign’s trajectory might prove challenging, making it unlikely that Trump will make a change at this point. However, he warned that the “political headache” caused by Vance could lead to regrets within the campaign. The speculation about Vance’s future comes amidst declining poll numbers for the Republican ticket and increasing scrutiny of his statements. With the election approaching, Trump faces the difficult decision of whether to stick with a controversial running mate or risk further damage to his campaign.

JD Vance has been nothing but a headache for Donald Trump since joining the Republican ticket, and it’s not out of the question that he could be replaced by someone else, a New York Times reporter warned Tuesday.

The Republican senator from Ohio has been widely criticized for his comments about “childless cat ladies,” leading Democrats to call him and other conservatives “weird.” Reporter Peter Baker told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Trump’s history suggests he may dump his running mate.

“In any normal campaign, you would say no, the presidential candidate has to stick with the person he’s chosen and make the best of it, even if it’s a flawed choice,” Baker said. “With this presidential candidate, you never know. You can’t rule out that he might decide to dump him one way or another. I don’t think it’s an easy process at this point. The nomination is given by convention, and changing that at this stage in the game is going to be complicated for a lot of reasons.”

Trump’s lead in the polls has largely been erased since the Republican National Convention after President Joe Biden dropped his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Polls also show Vance as deeply unpopular with voters.

“But Donald Trump has been very clear, and you’ve made this clear in the last hour, … he’s not afraid to fire people if he gets tired of them or if he feels like they’re not helping him or if he feels like they’re disloyal in some way,” Baker said.

“It’s clear in this case that J.D. Vance is loyal, but he’s giving him a political headache right now. It may not be enough to change the ticket — who else would he put there that would necessarily change things that would outweigh the cost of looking indecisive and like you made a big mistake by making a choice that you then walk away from a week or two later.”

“I wouldn’t necessarily look for that, but the idea that they’ll regret it, certainly,” Baker added. “That’s not the conversation they want to have.”
