The Ontario government has announced it will increase access to free menstrual products in schools.

Education Minister Todd Smith says the government has a three-year agreement with Shoppers Drug Mart to provide more than 23 million menstrual products to students over the next three years.

The province says it is part of a larger effort to break the stigma surrounding period poverty, after it struck its first deal with the pharmacy chain in 2021.

The free menstrual products, along with more than 1,300 dispensers, will be distributed to school boards across Ontario.
