One of them is Frank Hoyt, 40 years old and a sheet metal worker by trade, who travels around Australia repairing cars damaged by hail.
But now that his day job is shrinking, he has switched to Airtasker, where he earns an extra $4,000 a month painting and plastering houses or doing other crafts.

Hoyt likes the flexibility as he can work from home in Brisbane as well as travel for work.
Brittany Davidson, 27, also earns up to $4,000 a month.
The single mother from Canberra, who juggles parenting and caring for her grandmother, takes on tasks ranging from inspecting rental properties to mystery shopping and even writing heartfelt eulogies.
The number of Australians working multiple jobs is increasing. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), 974,000 people, or 6.7 percent of the workforce, work multiple jobs.
Women appear to have more multiple jobs: 7.3 percent of working women fall into this group, compared to 6 percent of working men.
Workers between the ages of 20 and 24 are most likely to have multiple jobs, at 7.3 percent, according to the ABS.
People working in the social and personal services sector are the most likely to have multiple jobs. Nearly one-tenth of workers, or 9.8 percent, have multiple jobs, according to the ABS.
On average, people work 30.8 hours per week in their primary job, followed by 8.9 hours in their secondary job.
In total, this is 39.7 hours per week, while people with one job work an average of 35.1 hours per week.
