Members of the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation. They received support from multiple agencies, including the Peru Post, Indiana Conservation Officers, and local police and fire departments. The preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Todd Trottier indicated that the pursuit began just after midnight, and the reason for the Impala’s departure from the roadway remains unknown. Indiana State Police are investigating a pursuit that ended in a fatal single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, at the request of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office and Mentone police.
According to a press release from the ISP, a preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Todd Trottier revealed that just after 12 a.m. Sunday, the Mentone marshal was patrolling Ind. 25 near Princeton Street in Mentone. The marshal attempted to stop a 2010 Chevrolet Impala for speeding; however, the Impala failed to stop and fled southbound on Ind. 25.
The pursuit continued south on Ind. 25 from Kosciusko County into Fulton County. Shortly after crossing Ind. 110, the Impala for unknown reasons left the east side of the road and struck a tree.
Despite life-saving efforts, the young driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by emergency medical personnel. The family of the deceased has been notified, the press release said.
The young passenger was taken by trauma helicopter to a nearby hospital with serious injuries that were not life-threatening.
The names of both minors have not been released.
Members of the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Trottier received assistance from officers from the Peru Post, other members of the ISP Crash Reconstruction Team, Indiana Conservation Officers, the Akron Police Department, the Rochester Police Department, the Mentone Police Department, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, KCSO, the Fulton County Coroner’s Office, Parkview EMS, Samaritan Air, the Mentone Fire Department, the Rochester Fire Department and Tony’s Citywide Towing.
