Guwahati, July 29 A special court on Monday sentenced former Assam Public Service Commission chairman Rakesh Paul to 14 years in jail for the APSC fraud that involved paying people for their jobs.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on Paul and sentenced former APSC members Basanta Kumar Doley and Samedur Rahman to 10 years in prison.

The 29 candidates who paid money for jobs as agricultural development officers (ADOs) in 2014 have been sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000.

On July 22, after the hearing in the case was completed, the court convicted 32 individuals, including former APSC chairman Paul, two former members and 29 candidates. However, the court had not yet ruled on the sentences of the convicted individuals.
