A student’s final marks in class 12 should include their performance in classes 9, 10 and 11, according to a report submitted to the education ministry by NCERT’s PARAKH. The report further stated that for counting the final marks, 15 per cent weightage should be given to performance in class 9, 20 per cent weightage to class 10, 25 per cent to class 11 and 40 per cent to class 12, the Indian Express reported.

The report was submitted after interviews with 32 school boards over the past year. The PARAKH report suggested that assessment in grades 9 to 12 should be based on both formative (class assessments, group discussions, projects) and summative assessments (final exams).

It added that for counting the final marks in class 9, 70 per cent weightage should be given to formative assessments and 30 per cent to summative assessments. In case of class 10, the final marks should give equal weightage to formative and summative assessments, that is, 50-50. The report also stated that 40 per cent weightage should be given to formative and 60 per cent to summative assessments while counting marks for class 11. In case of class 12, it should be 30 per cent and 70 per cent respectively, the news agency reported.
