Suspect Arrested After Dangerous Driving Incident on Highway 400Suspect Arrested After Dangerous Driving Incident on Highway 400 On July 26, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police received multiple reports of a small brown SUV driving recklessly on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township. The suspect vehicle was involved in several collisions before pulling over at the White’s Falls Road exit. Witnesses reported that the driver, who appeared intoxicated, exited the vehicle and attempted to harm himself and others. Concerned citizens intervened and physically restrained the suspect until police arrived. During the incident, an assisting motorist was attacked by the suspect with a tire iron. The suspect was arrested and refused to provide a breath sample. He also attacked and threatened a police officer during the investigation. Further investigation revealed that the suspect did not have permission to drive the vehicle and was on probation at the time. As a result, Joshua HANNON, 29, of Tay Township, faces multiple charges, including: * Impaired operation of a motor vehicle * Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle * Refusing to comply with the demand for breathing * Attack with a weapon * Assault Peace Officer * Failure to comply with the probation order HANNON was held for a bail hearing on July 29, 2024. If convicted of driving under the influence, his driver’s license will be revoked for 90 days, and the vehicle will be impounded for seven days.

On July 26, 2024 at 7:30 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Communications Centre began receiving calls about a small brown SUV driving dangerously and causing several collisions with other vehicles while traveling northbound on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township.

The suspect eventually pulled the heavily damaged vehicle to the side of the highway at the White’s Falls Road exit and the driver, who appeared to be intoxicated, exited the vehicle and stopped traffic. Concerned citizens who had stopped their vehicles exited and physically restrained the suspect to prevent him from harming himself or others. Police arrived on scene and found a group of people holding the driver to the ground. During the incident, an assisting motorist was attacked by the suspect with a tire iron.

Police arrested the driver and took him to the detachment, but the suspect refused to give a breath test. During the investigation, the suspect also attacked and threatened a police officer.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect did not have permission to drive the motor vehicle. In addition, the suspect was on probation at the time of the incident.

As a result of this investigation, Joshua HANNON, 29, of Tay Township, faces the following charges, which are contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Refusing to comply with the demand for breathing
  • Taking a motor vehicle without permission
  • Attack with a weapon
  • Full Threat to Cause Death x 2
  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Failure to comply with the probation order

The suspect was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 29, 2024. If charged with driving under the influence, the suspect’s driver’s license will be revoked for 90 days and the vehicle he was driving will be impounded for 7 days.
