Peacock, which for the first time offers top viewers the opportunity to watch all Olympic events live, drew 4.7 million viewers on Saturday, NBCU said. NBC’s linear Olympic Games coverage on Saturday focused largely on the men’s and women’s swimming events, which produced three medals for American athletes: a gold medal for Caeleb Dressel, a silver for Simone Manuel and a bronze for Katie Ledecky. The men’s soccer, beach volleyball and diving gymnastics qualifying events also aired live from 2 to 5 p.m. ET on NBC, Peacock, USA Network, CNBC, E!, Paris Extra 1, Paris Extra 2 and other NBCU digital platforms. Those events were replayed with some updates during the primetime hours of 8 to 11 p.m. ET on NBC, Peacock and USA Network. NBCUniversal has invested billions in U.S. Olympic TV rights and the costs of producing and marketing the games. NBCUniversal also hopes the Olympics will be a big driver of new subscriptions for Peacock. The large number of spectators on Saturday follows the large turnout of more than 28 million viewers for the opening ceremony on Friday.
