Trained by Bethany Baumgardner, Bridle a Butterfly is a homebred of Glen Hill Farm and boasts a strong pedigree. Out of the Storm Cat mare Sly Storm, Bridle a Butterfly inherited the athleticism and resilience of Country House, the 2019 Kentucky Derby winner. The victory marks a significant milestone for Country House’s progeny, who have shown promise in their early careers. Country House, a son of Looking at Lucky, had a remarkable career with five Grade 1 wins and earnings totaling over $2 million. His controversial Kentucky Derby victory, where Maximum Security was disqualified for interference, remains a memorable chapter in racing history. Bridle a Butterfly’s triumph adds to Country House’s legacy as a promising stallion now standing at Darby Dan Farm. With five starters from four yielding a winner, it is evident that the sire’s offspring possess the talent and determination to achieve greatness.

A little nervousness before the race turned into enthusiasm for his first start and Keep a butterfly in check gathered late to give birth to his father, Country house his first winner.

After some hesitation when loading into the gate, Bridle a Butterfly settled just behind the speed in a first special weight class on the grass at Gulf Stream Park. Bridle a Butterfly was taken four-wide on the downhill turn by jockey Drayden Van Dyke. The 2-year-old gelding then showed some of his sire’s turn, passing the three rivals ahead of him and crossing the wire 3 1/2 lengths ahead. He stopped the clock in :55.46.

Bridle a Butterfly is a Glen Hill Farm homebred, trained by Bethany Baumgardner. The chestnut is a daughter of the Storm Cat mare Sly Storm.

It took the offspring of Country House just five starts from four starters to reach the winner’s circle.

Country House, winner of the 2019 Kentucky Derby (G1), is listed at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington and is listed for $7,500.

The son of two-time champion Looking at happiness who won the 2010 Preakness Stakes (G1) with five Grade 1 victories, earned $2,120,175 with a 2-2-1 record from seven starts.

His first win came in his third start and the first of his 3-year-old campaign. He went on to finish second in the Risen Star Stakes (G2), fourth in the Louisiana Derby (G2) and third in the Arkansas Derby (G1) before winning the Derby in his swan song.

It was not without controversy when stewards decided that Maximum security who crossed the finish line first was disqualified for hindering other participants in the race.
