An Edwardian house in St Kilda has been transformed by renowned landscape designer Dave Franklin into a modern and charming home with a roof terrace and gardens.
The four-bedroom home at 23 Baker St, which is for sale with an asking price of $2.4 million to $2.6 million, is close to the beach and features an outdoor shower where residents can rinse off after getting out of the sand.
According to Sam Hobbs, director of Jellis Craig Port Phillip, younger professionals, families and people downsizing have shown interest in the property.

“It’s architecturally striking and incredibly clever in the floor plan, it’s got lots of angles and great flow,” says Hobbs.
“I love the living room downstairs and the fourth bedroom upstairs, home office or den, which you can decorate as you wish, with access to the terrace.”
The west-facing terrace offers views of the treetops and is the ideal place to enjoy a meal or watch the sunset.
At the rear of the house, sliding glass doors lead out to a courtyard with a built-in barbecue. The roof terrace is located on the top floor of the two-storey property.
The gardens were designed by Franklin, known for his work on the television series The Block, The Garden Hustle (with co-presenter Lisa McCune) and Open Homes Australia.
He is also the Director of Franklin Design Studio in Brighton, a multi-award-winning swimming pool and landscape design firm.
Inside the home you will find high ceilings, wooden floors and precast concrete surfaces in the hallway leading to an open plan living and dining room.
Heated concrete floors provide comfort during Melbourne’s colder weather, while sliding glass doors and floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the rear garden.
The kitchen is equipped with Miele appliances, a cast concrete cooking island and plenty of storage space.
On the ground floor is the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet.
Upstairs there are two more bedrooms, separated by a glass walkway, and a bathroom.
In addition to its location close to the beach, the house is also within walking distance of the shops and eateries of Acland St., public transport, schools and Peanut Farm Reserve.
Hobbs says the house is also close to Elwood, with the famous Jerry’s Milkbar cafe just a quarter mile walk away.
“It’s in a really good location, on the border of Elwood and in one of the best streets in St Kilda,” he says.
Other highlights include a code entry system, hydrostatic heating, cooling, surround sound speakers, a restroom, laundry with a drying station and the ability to park one car on site via the access road.
The house will be auctioned on August 10 at 10am.
