Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has said he, along with other members of the Ekiti State faction in the National Assembly, will join hands with other progressives to support the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for another term.

He said his decision was based on the governor’s excellent performance and exemplary leadership qualities.

During an inspection of some projects in his constituency in Ekiti Central Senatorial District on Friday in Igede-Ekiti, Mr Bamidele said members of the state National Assembly would soon publicly declare their support for Mr Oyebanji’s second term in office.

The Senator, who was accompanied by the Governor at the inspection and opening of the project, noted that Mr Oyebanji’s transformative leadership and people-centric policies and programmes have brought many significant developments to the state and its people.

He affirmed that the Governor’s ability to unite all political forces in the state and mobilise the people for development has delivered tremendous and significant growth to the state.

He explained that the Governor has continued to work with members of the National Assembly and actively involved them in his development agenda.

Mr Bamidele said he can execute many constituency projects in the six local governments that make up his central senatorial district because the governor has created and maintained an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in the state, where there is no hostility and mutual distrust.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank our governor. I say this wherever I go. If you have elected someone to represent you in Abuja and he comes back home to do something, it is because they allowed him to come back. If they do not allow us, we will just stay in Abuja and we will not cross our border.

“But we have a governor today who will sit with us and say this is what our people need, if you want to implement your constituency project, please work on this list. I know market development was part of what the governor discussed with us, transformer was part of it, solar street lights was part of it, and by the grace of God every member of the National Assembly would choose from the list that the governor gave us because if we do not do what the people want where they want it, it will be useless.

“Your Excellency, we are proud of you and I know that by the grace of God, as everyone is saying, anyone who thinks there will be a vacancy in 2026 is only fooling themselves. I beg you, let no one fool our people. You have sent nine of us to Abuja, three senators and six members of the House of Representatives and at the right time, the nine of us will place our advert, signed collectively, endorsing Governor Oyebanji as our consensus candidate in all the dailies,” the senator said.

Mr Bamidele, who promised to rebuild Igede-Ekiti market to Iyin Ekiti standards, further said that all market, solar, road and hospital projects in the six local government areas in the district would be implemented.

Mr Oyebanji in his response commended the commitment of the Senate Leader and his colleagues in the National Assembly to the development of Ekiti.

He noted that their exemplary performance underscored the importance of choosing people of proven integrity and capabilities as representatives in government.
