Crena L. Freeman (1935-2024)

Franklin County, IN – Crena L. Freeman, a beloved community member and lifelong resident of Franklin County, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on February 12, 2024. Born in 1935 to the late John and Martha Freeman, Crena lived a full and meaningful life. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1953 and later earned a degree in education from Ball State University. After graduating from college, Crena dedicated her career to the education of children. She taught elementary school for over 30 years at Northwood Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless young students. Beyond her passion for teaching, Crena was actively involved in her community. She served as a volunteer for the Franklin County Historical Society, where she shared her love of history with residents of all ages. Crena was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Franklin County, where she was an active participant in various ministries. Crena will be remembered for her warm smile, infectious laugh, and unwavering commitment to others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family and friends will cherish the memories of her love and laughter for years to come. Crena is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Freeman; her children, David (Linda) Freeman and Susan (Mark) Williams; her grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Freeman, Sarah (John) Smith, and Emily (Andrew) Jones; and her great-grandchildren, Ava, Sophia, Ethan, and Lily. A memorial service celebrating Crena’s life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Franklin County on Saturday, February 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM. A private burial service will follow at the Franklin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Franklin County Historical Society in Crena’s memory. Crena’s legacy will continue to inspire and uplift the community she loved so dearly.
