Housing market nervousness over possible interest rate changes

Sky News reported that national capital clearance rates had fallen slightly over the weekend to below 60 percent. According to REA, there were 1,458 auctions nationwide and 58.6 percent of them were sold. Anne Flaherty, economist at REA Group, said the slight decline could be due to “nerves about what interest rates might do in the coming months, which could affect buyer demand.”

Workforce numbers could influence RBA interest rate decision

Paul Ryan, senior economist at the REA Group, says this week’s labour force figures have the potential to “change the RBA’s view on interest rates”, Sky News has reported. “I think the labour force numbers this week, as well as the quarterly CPI coming out next week, have the potential to change the RBA’s view on interest rates,” Mr Ryan said. “We expect continued employment growth at a slower pace – that’s been the trend this year.”
