On July 16, a head-on collision occurred on Highway 17 and 116 Avenue. A 41-year-old man, later identified as Sandeep Singh Cheema, was taken to hospital with severe injuries. On July 22, police announced that Cheema had succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other truck, a 44-year-old man, and a passenger, a 46-year-old woman, were also taken to hospital but were later released. Cheema’s family has created a GoFundMe page to assist with expenses. According to his brother-in-law, Cheema is remembered as a beloved father and husband. His organs were donated, giving life to others. The Surrey RCMP criminal investigation team is still investigating the crash. Sergeant Tammy Lobb expressed sympathy for the victim’s family and friends. Initial reports suggested that speed may have been a factor, but the exact circumstances of the accident remain under investigation. Fundraising Appeal for Family The fundraising page has surpassed its goal of $20,000. The money raised will support Cheema’s family, who has lived in Surrey since 2012.

Police are still investigating the fatal accident involving the drivers of two trucks.

On July 16 at 8:10 p.m., two trucks collided on Highway 17 and 116 Avenue.

A 41-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. On July 22, police warned the public that the driver had died from his injuries.

The driver of the other truck, 44, and a passenger, 46, were also taken to hospital but were released shortly afterwards.

Sandeep Singh Cheema has been identified as the driver who died in the accident.

Family member Kiran Singh has created a GoFundMe for Cheema.

“As some of you may know, my brother-in-law Sandeep Cheema passed away in a terrible accident,” Singh said.

Cheema is remembered as a beloved father and husband.

“When Sandeep left home for work, he told his daughters… and his wife Manjeet that he would come back. But that was not to be,” Singh says. “Although Sandeep may be gone, his infectious spirit and his love for life are survived by his daughters and his wife.”

The fundraising page states that his organs were donated “so that someone else’s life can be saved.”

The family has lived in Surrey since 2012. The money raised from the fundraiser will go to the family.

The Surrey RCMP criminal investigation team is still investigating the fatal crash.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this time,” said Sergeant Tammy Lobb.

After the accident on July 16, police reported that speed may have played a role, but the circumstances of the accident have not yet been determined.
