Teen driver charged in fatal Powell crash

Powell, Ohio

– A 17-year-old driver has been charged with vehicular homicide and other offenses in connection with a fatal crash in Powell last month that killed a 15-year-old passenger. The teen, whose name has not been released, was driving a 2021 Jeep Wrangler north on Sawmill Road near Sawbury Boulevard on Aug. 27 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, according to the Powell Police Department. The passenger, identified as 15-year-old Ethan M. Gerber, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police said the driver was speeding and impaired at the time of the crash. He has been charged with vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and driving under the influence of alcohol. The crash remains under investigation.

Authorities have charged a teenage driver in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred in Powell on Saturday night. According to the Powell Police Department, 17-year-old Ethan Lewis was operating a vehicle that struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Sawmill Parkway and Liberty Road around 10:30 p.m. The pedestrian, 62-year-old Michael Carter, was crossing the street when he was hit by Lewis’ car. Carter was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Lewis was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. He is being held at the Franklin County Jail. The crash is still under investigation by the Powell Police Department.
