Train Specifications The 39 coaches will be organized into 13 trainsets, each consisting of three coaches configured as DMC (Driving Motor Car) + TC (Trailer Car) + DMC (Driving Motor Car). The trains will have a carrying capacity of 972 passengers and will be compatible with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Control (ATC), and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) modes. Procurement Details * Estimated cost: Rs. 509.68 crore * Deadline: 154 weeks after commencement date * Pre-bid meeting: August 2, 2024 * Deadline for bid submission: August 29, 2024 Manufacturing and Delivery * One prototype trainset must be delivered to Phulapokhari depot within 102 weeks from the commencement date. * Four additional trainsets must be delivered within 137 weeks. * Another four trainsets must be delivered within 145 weeks. * The remaining four trainsets must be delivered within 154 weeks. Grade of Automation The trains will conform to Grade of Automation-2 (GoA2) standards, allowing for semi-automatic operations with safety supervision. Make in India Compliance To support the Aatmannirbhar Bharat initiative, a maximum of 9 coaches can be manufactured outside India. The remaining coaches must be manufactured in India. Bidders must establish local manufacturing facilities or partner with Indian companies to comply.

Bhubaneswar (Metro Rail News): On July 18, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) floated a tender for procurement of 39 standard gauge coaches for the 26.024 km Phase 1 project of Bhubaneswar Metro under package BRS1.

The Bhubaneswar Metro project will enhance urban mobility by introducing 39 metro coaches. These coaches will be organized into 13 trainsets, each consisting of three coaches configured as DMC (Driving Motor Car) + TC (Trailer Car) + DMC (Driving Motor Car). These 13 trainsets will operate on Line 1 of the Bhubaneswar Metro, which connects Biju Patnaik Airport and Trisulia Square through 20 stations. Each trainset will have 3 coaches.

Traction for rolling stock

The metro trains running in Bhubaneswar use the Third Rail System to get electricity. The Phulapokhri Depot, which is currently under construction, will manage the trains for the Bhubaneswar Metro Phase 1 project.

Features of Bhubaneswar Metro

As per DMRC guidelines, the 3-coach trains are designed to carry 972 passengers. The new coaches will be made of stainless steel, which will keep them light. Moreover, the trains will be compatible with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Control (ATC) and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) modes.

The delivery time for the train sets is as follows:

  • The prototype train set is to be delivered to the Phulapokhari depot within 102 weeks (2 years) from the commencement date mentioned in the contract.
  • The next series of 4 trainsets must be delivered within 137 weeks after the start date.
  • Another 4 train sets must be delivered within 145 weeks after the start date.
  • The last set of 4 trainsets must be delivered within 154 weeks after the start date.

The notification specifies that the trains of Bhubaneswar Metro shall conform to the norms of Grade of Automation-2 (GoA2). This level of automation is one notch below driverless operations (GoA3) and two notches below driverless train operations (GoA4).

Joining the “Make In India” initiative

To ensure that this contract is in line with the Aatmannirbhar Bharat (Make In India) initiative, DMRC has included a clause stating that a maximum of 9 coaches (3 trains) can be manufactured outside India. The remaining coaches must be manufactured within India. To meet these bidding conditions, the contractor must set up local manufacturing facilities either independently or in partnership with an Indian company.
