Meet Nat Thaipun, the Thai contestant who won Masterchef Australia 2024
Born to Thai parents in Melbourne, Nat earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental and social sciences. After graduating, she tried her hand at various jobs, including a barista, a business manager, and a Greenpeace fundraiser. While working, she discovered that food is the currency of human connection — that she gets so much pride and joy just from sharing a good meal with other people.
According to Nat, her cooking is heavily inspired by her late grandmother and mother, as well as the adventures of the late culinary icon Anthony Bourdain. Outside of the kitchen, she is an advocate for food accessibility, making sure food is easily accessible to people in marginalized communities.

Nat Thaipun competed on Masterchef Australia 2024, the 16th season. Her dish, “Kangaroo Larb”, earned her the show’s only immunity pin in the premiere episode, along with a week of work experience with Jamie Oliver in London, cementing her position as one to watch from the start. She also received a job offer from Vicky Cheng during the show’s visit to Hong Kong.
The grand final aired on 16 July 2024, with Nat defeating Josh Perry by a score of 71 to 68. He received the grand prize of AUD 250,000 (approximately USD 167,260) and a residency at the Alumni Restaurant at Crown Melbourne.
